In preperation for my HDR OLED Steam Deck, I tried out RDR2 on my “old” LCD one, since I plan on replaying it there once it arrives.

With a mix of settings ranging from low all the way to ultra, I can get a pretty much locked 45 FPS with the screen set to the same refresh rate, while still looking beautiful, even on the lousy LCD panel.

All of that with the superior Vulkan renderer, which we have Google’s failed Stadia cloud gaming service to thank for, because I’ve heard they paid Rockstar/2K in excess of 100+ million $ to get RDR2 ported to Linux, which required Vulkan support.

Now it will be interesting to see whether the upcoming GTA 6 will keep the better performing Vulkan API renderer around or only ship with a DX12 renderer on PC, which performs noticeably worse on RDR2…

Likely just a map to load in and you can’t set it to just load up with the game it’s always some hotkey or something, there’s tons of maps for this game all over for a while. Game is buggy enough already and I have a good 10-20 simple qol mods and weather mods, rando misson mods amjm, etc I guess if it’s worth it to you for screenshots and such. What we needed was a native PC RDR1 like the largely untouched switch release, so modders could update the textures and a lot more, the ryujinx version is fine but you’re stuck with what justar gives you graphically etc Very odd of justar to do a ton of work with terrain and even visible forts there in RDR2 but never actually come back and use it like cp77 did with the dogtown area in PL. Seems too late now 5 years after release though.
